Introduction:

Gnomes were asked to do some turfing for an existing customer, where they do garden maintenance on a fortnightly basis, including lawn mowing, maintaining flower beds, pruning, hedge cutting and cutting back any shrubs as required and keeping the garden tidy.

Project:

The customer asked Gnomes to re-turf a large area to the front of their property, as a result of landscaping the area, to increase the size of their driveway.

Solution:

They started by improving the drainage, as the area had a lot of clay, they did this by rotovating the area, adding horticultural grit and then rotovating it again.

After leaving the area for a few days to settle, Gnomes began to level the area using 10 tonnes of Root Zone, which is a soil and sand mix it’s lighter to work with, warms up quickly and drains very well, lawns grow best when laid on well-drained soil. As it was a large area, it was sectioned off to improve the levelling process, they raked the surface to a fine tilth and made sure that the surface was level and to the desired depth, this was done twice to allow for the soil to be lightly compacted.

Again after leaving the area for a couple of weeks, helping the soil to settle, Gnomes levelled the sections that needed it, raked the area to a fine tilth again and began laying the turf as they went along to stop any of the soil being compressed in the process.

Once the lawn was laid, Gnomes cleaned the area and left it tidy.
